MOSCOW, December 23. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on Tuesday on toughening punishment for violating the frontier regime and the regime at checkpoints on Russian state border.
Under the law, published on the official legal information portal, individuals violating the rules of entrance and temporary stay in the border area will face a fine of up to 1,000 rubles (around $20), compared with 500 rubles as of now.
If a crime is committed by foreigners or persons without citizenship, they could be expelled from the country.
The law also toughens sanctions for carrying out illegal business activities or mass public events in the border area. Officials and legal entities could face a maximum fine of 5,000 rubles and 10,000 rubles, respectively.
Similar amendments have been introduced to the Russian code on administrative offences on violating the frontier regime in the country’s territorial waters.
