DUBAI, April 2. /TASS/. The number of those killed in the Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus has risen to 13, Iran’s state-run television IRIB said, citing the Iranian ambassador to the Syrian capital, Hossein Akbari.
According to the Iranian diplomat, seven Iranian military advisers, including two senior generals of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps or IRGC (the elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces - TASS), and six Syrian nationals were killed.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported on April 1 that the Israeli military had carried out an airstrike on a building in the Syrian capital of Damascus. Later on Monday, Iranian media said that the building of the Iranian consulate in the Mezzeh municipality in northwestern Damascus was attacked. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps or IRGC (the elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces — TASS) reported the death of seven military advisers, including General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, in the attack.
Russia has firmly condemned the Israeli attack and requested a UN Security Council meeting on the issue. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi promised that the strike on the diplomatic mission would not go unanswered. An Israel Defense Forces spokeswoman refused to give TASS a comment on the Israeli military strike on Damascus.
